Marines Back up Iraqi Security Forces in Najaf

An Najaf, Iraq
-- On the eve of Iraq's parliamentary elections, Marines here are busy combing the city's streets for suspicious activity from would-be insurgents looking to disrupt voting.

Mounted in Humvees and armed with machine guns, missiles and rifles, Marines from Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), have spent the past several days sweeping the city's streets in search of potential enemy activity.

"Even though nothing's happened (since August), doesn't mean nothing could happen," said Cpl. Brent M. Boden, a 20-year-old infantryman from Greenfield, Ind.
