Iraqi, Marine Forces Detain 14 south of Baghdad
Forward Operating Base Kalsu, Iraq -- Iraqi security forces, backed by elements of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, rounded up 14 suspected insurgents south of Baghdad late on Jan. 27, continuing their pursuit of militants attempting to disrupt Sunday's national election.
Soldiers of the 507th Iraqi National Guard Battalion detained 11 suspected insurgents near Iskandariyah and confiscated three vehicles the ING believe were to be used as car bombs.
The ING Soldiers were reinforcing Iraqi police officers who were engaged by militants firing rifles near a school. In their own sweep of the area, the police detained two people in connection with the attack.
Elsewhere, the Hilla-based Iraqi SWAT team, joined by Marines of the MEU's Force Reconnaissance platoon, captured a wanted insurgent in a raid near Jabella.
