Patrol Finds IED Planted near Baghdad Elementary School
Baghdad, Iraq -- Soldiers from Task Force Baghdad discovered an improvised explosive device near a western Baghdad elementary school at about 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 25.
Members of the 4th Battalion, 31st Field Artillery Regiment, part of the 10th Mountain Division's 2nd "Commando" Brigade Combat Team, discovered the IED, and secured the area.
"Insurgents clearly put Iraqi children at extreme risk in order to intimidate citizens," said Task Force Baghdad's chief spokesman, Lt. Col. James Hutton.
"The insurgent continues to prove that he cares nothing for the people of Iraq."
An explosive ordnance disposal team was called in and destroyed the device with a controlled detonation.
