Afghanistan seeks return of its aircraft: Pak daily
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Jan 24, IRNA -- Pakistan is considering a request by Afghanistan to return Soviet-era aircraft and helicopters flown into Pakistan by defecting Afghan pilots. Dawn newspaper reported on Monday that Kabul had made the request, seeking the return of the aircraft and helicopters. Quoting Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan, the newspaper said that the ministries concerned were looking into the request. The report added that Afghanistan`s Defense Ministry sought the return of 26 aircraft -- nine helicopters, five bombers, eight fighters, two trainer jets and two transport planes -- which had landed at Peshawar or adjoining areas close to Afghanistan. The aircraft brought to Pakistan between 1983 and 1989 had outlived their utility and were no longer flight-worthy, according to the daily. MHA/TSH/2321/1432
