Insurgents Launch Indirect Fire Attacks in Ramadi
Camp Blue Diamond, Iraq -- Insurgents launched a series of indirect fire attacks on several civilian population centers in and around Ramadi about 1 p.m. on Jan. 20.
At least six rounds of insurgent indirect fire impacted in neighborhoods and near homes.
It is undetermined if there were civilian casualties.
Marines returned fire to the locations where two of the attacks originated after confirming no civilians were in the area.
This event may be another attempt by insurgents to destabilize the Ramadi area and intimidate the civilian population prior to the elections, which are scheduled to occur on Jan. 30.
The Marines, Soldiers and Sailors of the 1st Marine Division of the I Marine Expeditionary Force, with their Iraqi Security Force partners, will continue to support the Iraqi citizens in the Al Anbar Province in advance of the upcoming elections.
