Soldiers, Iraqi Army Discover Weapons Cache
AL Montessim, Iraq- Soldiers from Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment and the 203rd Iraqi Army Battalion discovered a weapons cache here on Jan. 11.
The cache consisted of 23x 1.55mm rounds, 30 RPG's, 25 grenades, 3x AK-47's and roughly 10x lbs. of C-4 with blasting caps.
"This is a great find," said Staff Sgt. James Tembrock, Bravo Troop section sergeant. "It means less Soldiers will be killed."
The cache was discovered on the last day of Operation Powder River, a sweep of the areas of Ad Duluiyah and Al Montessim by 1-4 Cavalry Soldiers, which began on Dec. 31.
"This is the first major cache we've discovered since the operation began," Tembrock said. "We've found some sporadic things that people weren't supposed to have, but nothing like this."
According to Tembrock, the IA Soldiers played a big role in assisting in the discovery of the cache and were very excited when it was discovered.
Two suspects in the area of the cache were detained for questioning.
