Vehicle Accident Kills 6 Iraqi civilians, Injures 8 Others

-- Two patrols from the 1st Infantry Division operating near Muqdadiyah were completing their mission when a M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank collided head-on with a mini bus carrying Iraqi civilians about 6 a.m. on Jan. 14.

The bus was traveling in the southbound lane of the highway, when it attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle in front of it. The mini bus was unable to react quickly enough to avoid crashing head-on into the tank. Six passengers in the vehicle were killed and eight others were injured.

The second patrol stopped to render first aid and other assistance to the victims. The Soldiers evacuated the injured civilians to the Muqdadiyah hospital. The accident is under investigation
