Insurgents Kill, Injure Iraqi Civilians
Camp Blue Diamond, Iraq --Two Iraqi civilians were killed and others were wounded near Abu Ghraib prison at approximately 1 p.m., Jan. 11, from the effects of three mortar rounds that were launched by insurgents.
A U.S. Marine patrol responded to the site of the impacts. Local civilians reported to the patrol where two women were killed and six other civilians were wounded in the attack.
The injured and dead were removed prior to the patrol's arrival.
After investigating the site, the patrol reported that the impacts are consistent with those made by 120mm mortar rounds.
