Security forces gun down over 150 rebels in west Nepal: Army

New Delhi, Jan 6, IRNA -- More than 150 Maoist rebels were killed and over 100 injured in a fierce gunbattle with security forces in western Nepal, the Army sources claimed. The three-hour gunfight took place at Bankhet area near Musrai of Kailali district, 700 Km west of Nepalese capital Kathmandu, last night after security forces launched a search operation of the Maoists` base camp there. The joint team of security forces shot dead more than 150 rebels and injured over 100, sources at the Army`s western division headquarters said, adding the Maoists` base camp was also destroyed. According to media reports eight security personnel were injured in the incident, two of them seriously. Meanwhile 30 bodies of the rebels were recovered from the area after the incident. The rebels usually carry away the bodies of their dead colleagues. About 300-400 armed Maoists were involved in the gunbattle, security sources said, adding the army also recovered some arms looted by the rebels in the past. 2160-1/1422/1432
