PENSACOLA, Fla. (NNS) -- At a recent military training and education conference, representatives from the Royal Navy and United States Navy signed a groundbreaking joint statement of cooperation for tackling training and education issues of the 21st century.
After a year of preliminary discussions, the historical agreement was formalized during the 26th annual Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education (I/ITSEC) Conference held Dec. 2, in Orlando, Florida.
The arrangement specifically seeks to stimulate greater cooperation between the two organizations, particularly in the design, delivery and management of current and future training, with a goal of providing the best and most cost-effective Naval education and training to our fighting men and women.
While the agreement, by nature, is only symbolic it provides a tangible means for the allied organizations to join forces on common education and training challenges such as waterfront and distributed delivery of training, implementation of synthetic approaches to engineering training, and the enabling of life-long learning to Sailors at sea and ashore.
"At all times, the aim of our cooperation should be to utilize our joint resources to identify and achieve common education and training goals," said Vice Adm. J. Kevin Moran, Commander, Naval Education and Training Command. "This formalizes our intent, and is a great step toward those goals."
"This will provide a framework for the future," Royal Navy Rear Adm. John Borley, Director General, Naval Training and Education, told conference officials, adding, "Future commitments will grow out of this."
I/ITSEC is now the world's leading military training and education conference. This year's meeting attracted over 15,000 attendees, 400 exhibitors and 156 technical papers.
The Naval Education and Training Command is the Navy's premier learning organization whose mission is to educate and train those who serve, providing the tools and opportunities which ensure fleet readiness and mission accomplishment, enhance professional growth and development, and enable life-long learning.
