Controlled Detonation of Weapons Cache Outside Ramadi
Ramadi, Iraq -- Soldiers of the 1st Marine Division of the I Marine Expeditionary Force conducted a controlled detonation of a large weapons cache in the Ramadi suburb of Sofia last evening.
The weapons cache had been seized by Multi-National Forces on a recent patrol of the Sofia area.
Great care was taken to minimize the risks to citizens through careful planning and a well-executed controlled detonation. Soldiers broadcasted warnings to the citizens of the town using equipment mounted to several vehicles prior to conducting the controlled detonation.
There were no injuries or collateral damage.
The Marines, Soldiers and Sailors of the First Marine Division of the I Marine Expeditionary Force stand committed to enhancing security and stability for the citizens of Ramadi and the Al Anbar Province in advance of the upcoming elections in January.
