MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (Nov. 22, 1004) -- The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Amphious Squadron 8 wrapped up PHIBRON/MEU Integration Training Nov. 22 as the last of the Marines and Sailors arrived back at Onslow Beach and Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C.

This training period allowed the Marine Corps and Navy team to conduct baseline amphibious operations training, refine shipboard operating procedures and fully integrated the MEU and PHIBRON into USS Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group.

Some of the basic events covered during PMINT were loading and unloading of vehicles and equipment, shipboard aviation qualifications, planning and executing ship-to-shore raids and basic ship familiarization.

This training was essential to the MEU’s overall focus of maximizing its war fighting capabilities that will ensure the readiness of the unit to conduct an array of missions once deployed.

The exercise served as a building block for subsequent exercises to include the Expeditionary Strike Group Exercise (ESGEX) and the Special Operations Capable Certification (CERTEX).

"I said at the beginning of this exercise that one of our 'gotta do's' is that we 'gotta' finish this exercise as a team. That means a MEU team, the [command element], the BLT, ACE and MSSG and a Navy Marine Corps team. We can all look in the mirror and know that we achieved that," Qualls said.
