
General Dynamics Receives $12 Million Contract for Aegis Directors/Controllers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), recently received a $12 million option to a previously awarded contract from the Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., for the production of three Aegis gun and guided missile director and controller ship sets. The initial contract award was in September 2003; this option brings total contract value to date to $27.5 million.
General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products produces the Aegis Illuminator gun and guided missile MK 82/200 director/controllers for the Aegis Weapon System, the U.S. Navy’s most advanced tactical radar defense system. The MK 82 director/controller is a large electro-mechanical assembly that provides a stabilized platform for Raytheon Equipment Division’s radar antenna assembly and provides motion in two axes, supplying position and radar Line of Sight (LOS) data to the fire control system computer.
General Dynamics has more than 20 years of experience in the design, production and technical support of the Aegis MK 82/200. Program management, assembly and testing will all be performed at General Dynamics’ Vermont-based Burlington Technology Center.
