International Ships Visit Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Six ships from NATO's Standing Naval Force Atlantic (STANAVFORLANT) pulled into Norfolk Naval Station Nov. 18.
"The message we are sending is that we are standing shoulder-to-shoulder with America in the global war on terrorism," said Rear Adm. Leon Bruin, Royal Netherlands Navy, commander, STANAVFORLANT.
The visiting international ships are: HNLMS Witte de With, The Netherlands, flagship, Commander, STANAVFORLANT and staff embarked; FGS Lûbeck (Germany), HMCS Ville de Quebec (Canada); USS Simpson (FFG 56), homeported in Mayport, Fla.; SPS Navarra (Spain) and FGS Spessart (Germany). The ships are conducting a Western Atlantic (WESTLANT) deployment that is slated to end in mid-December.
During the WESTLANT deployment, STANAVFORLANT units have conducted joint exercises to enhance joint interoperability and integration with U.S. Navy forces.
The ships will be in Norfolk through Nov. 22.
