New Delhi, Nov 19, IRNA -- The Nepal government will announce a deadline for the Maoists for talks and call general election if the rebels fail to come to the negotiating table before its expiry, a senior Nepal minister said on Thursday. According to the media reports, Nepalese government will in a few days announce a deadline calling the Maoists for dialogue and then it will fix the election date if they did not come forward for talks, said Minister for Information and Communication Mohammad Mohsin. "The government has accorded top priority for talks but it will be our compulsion to announce the election date if they did not respond to our call for talks," he said, after a High-level Peace Committee (HPC) meeting, which continued on Thursday for the second day to discuss the peace process. The meeting is focusing on matters relating to the present state of the country and moving the peace process ahead, said Mohsin, a member of the HPC. The committee is discussing matters relating to initiating peace talks and dialogue with the rebels and bringing them into mainstream politics. It also discussed getting involvement of the political parties that are outside the government in the peace process. The HPC is also learnt to have assessed the present situation in the wake of the intensified attacks launched by the Maoists against government forces in various parts of the country in which 20 security personnel have been killed. Meanwhile, Maoist spokesman and Polit Bureau member Krishna Bahadur Mahara has said Parliamentary election cannot solve the present problem facing the country and also it cannot address the rebels` agenda. Maoists have been struggling to establish a Communist style government in Nepal replacing the constitutional monarchy. More than 10,000 people have been killed in the insurgency since 1996. 2160/1771
