IRAQI ARMY CONTINUES OPERATIONS IN FALLUJAH
FALLUJAH, Iraq -- The Iraqi army's 6th Battalion, 3rd Brigade conducted a cordon-and-search mission north of the city, Nov. 15, with elements from the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division resulting in the detention of 17 individuals.
The operation resulted from suspected anti-Iraq force presence in the area and specifically targeted four homes with the Iraqi force performing the searches. 1st Cavalry conducted the cordon of the area.
Also seized in the operation were two AK-47 assault rifles with ammunition and magazines, an assortment of mortar charges, and various explosives materiel possibly used in improvised explosive device manufacturing and employments in the area.
All detainees have been taken to the Abu Ghraib Prison for further questioning. One of the individuals is a suspected foreign national.
Since operations commenced in Fallujah, a little over a week ago, 6th Battalion has been primarily involved in traffic-control point, cordon-and-search, and other various security operations outside of the city in support of operations inside the town.
No casualties resulted from the operation."
