Fighting Continues In Al-Fallujah, Flares In Ba'qubah
15 November 2004 -- Fighting flared today between insurgents and U.S. and Iraqi forces in the city of Ba'qubah as coalition troops moved against remaining pockets of resistance in Al-Fallujah.
In Ba'qubah, 65 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, U.S. planes dropped two 225-kilogram bombs on insurgent positions as U.S. and Iraqi troops battled rebels who had attacked a police station. The U.S. military said at least 20 rebels were killed in Ba'qubah. The figure could not be independently confirmed.
Fighting also took place in the neighboring town of Buhriz, where rebels attacked a police station, in Al-Ramadi and in the northern city of Mosul.
U.S.-led forces battled pockets of resistance in Al-Fallujah, where the military says the week-old offensive has killed some 1,200 rebels, 38 U.S. troops, and six Iraqi soldiers.
The fate of civilians in the city caused increasing concern today as the U.S. military today refused permission for a Red Crescent convoy to advance into the city.
In the north, saboteurs today triggered an explosion on an oil pipeline connecting Kirkuk with Turkey.
