Anti-Iraqi Forces Conduct Multiple Attacks in Baqubah

-- Anti-Iraqi Forces attacked 1st Infantry Division Soldiers with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire near the Mufrek traffic circle and Mufrek Police Station in Baqubah at about 7:05 a.m. on Nov 15. While in contact, 1st Infantry Division Soldiers received fire from a mosque. Iraqi Security Forces and Multi-National Forces searched the area around the mosque and found 29 RPG rounds, three RPG launchers, two mortar systems, 10 mortar rounds and several hundred small arms rounds.

The Buhritz police station was also attacked by insurgents using machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades at about the same time.

At least 15 anti-Iraqi forces got off a bus and took positions on a rooftop of a building near Baqubah at about 7:50 a.m. They also blocked off roads heading west by emplacing improvised explosive devices. Multi-National Forces maintained contact with the enemy and MNF aircraft dropped two 500-pound bombs at about 9:30 a.m. on anti-Iraqi forces positions.

Operating out of the Provincial Joint Coordination Center, the Diyala Governor and Provincial Police Chief have been coordinating Iraqi Security Force efforts to keep the city secure.

Four 1st Infantry Division Soldiers were wounded in the attacks. Two have been returned to duty.
