Militants Attack Police Stations Near Ba'quba

9 November 2004 -- Police say militants stormed two police stations near the central Iraqi town of Ba'quba today.

There are conflicting accounts of the casualties.

General Walid al-Azzawi, head of the Diyala provincial police, said the attacks erupted at police stations in the towns of Buhriz and Mafrag, nearly 60 kilometers north of Baghdad.

Insurgents also attacked a key bridge on a road north of Ba'quba.

The extremist Islamic Army in Iraq published a statement on its website today calling on militants to attack some 20 targets in the country in reprisals for the U.S offensive on the rebel-held city of Al-Fallujah.
