ISF, Marines capture Insurgents in Northern Babil
Forward Operating Base Kalsu, Iraq - Iraqi Security Forces with elements of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit rounded up 41 insurgents during multiple operations south of Baghdad Nov. 5.
In an early-morning raid near Musayyib, about 40 miles south of the Iraqi capital, ISF and Marines captured an individual suspected of manufacturing improvised explosive devices and selling them to local street gangs. The man had two grenades and detonation cord in his possession.
Some 15 miles north of Musayyib, near Lutafiyah, Marines picked up two leaders of an insurgent cell in a pair of raids. A third individual suspected of engaging in insurgent activity was also detained.
During a sweep of the south-central town of Haswah, members of the Iraqi National Guard and Marines netted 28 anti-Iraqi forces, several of whom were specifically targeted for committing acts of terrorism against Iraqi citizens.
Finally, Marines operating in the MEU's northern sector captured nine suspected insurgents in a series of raids near Yusufiyah.
Today's gains come one month after ISF and the Marines began intensifying their efforts to hunt down anti-Iraqi forces fomenting violence and terrorizing the local populace. On Oct. 5, the allies spread out in a massive operation aimed at disrupting AIF activity and protecting innocent Iraqis.
