Exercise ALLIED WARRIOR 04: NATO Response Force Gains Momentum
NATO AJFC Naples Press Release {35}
5 Nov. 2004
ALLIED WARRIOR 04 (AW 04) is a Command Post Exercise for a Combined Joint Force Land Component Command (CJFLCC). It will take place from 08 to 24 November 2004 in Amersfoort, Ede and Harskamp in the Netherlands and in Verona and Naples in Italy.
Approximately 900 personnel from the following 16 NATO nations will participate in this exercise: Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
This exercise provides a unique opportunity for participants to practise the concept and procedures for planning and mounting an initial entry NATO Response Force (NRF) deployment with a follow-on Combined Joint Task Force operation. Based on a fictitious Crisis Response scenario and under a United Nations Chapter VII mandate, AW 04 practices the rapid deployment of a Combined Joint Force Land Component Command Headquarters, as well as command and control of assigned NRF forces in theatre.
AW 04 will also provide the vehicle for validation of 1 German/Netherlands Corps (1 GE/NL Corps) as the Combined Joint Force Land Component Command for the NATO Response Force rotation, starting in January 2005. In addition, the operation will be conducted in an asymmetrical and Nuclear, Biological, Chemical (NBC) threat environment, to integrate the support of the Multinational Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defence Battalion and the NBC-Joint Assessment Team. This is an important step towards the implementation process of the NRF / CJTF concepts, which will provide the Alliance with a vital tool for crisis management in the 21st Century.
The exercise is scheduled by the Supreme Allied Commander
Europe (SACEUR) and conducted by the Commander, Allied Joint Force Command
Naples.
