- ATK Receives $8.8 Million Contract to Supply MK44 Automatic Cannons to USAF Special Operations Command ATK 01 Nov 2004 -- ATK (NYSE: ATK) has received an $8.8 million contract for Research, Development, Testing and Evaluation (RDT&E) of a modified MK44 30mm Automatic Cannon for use by the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command on its AC-130U gunships. The AC-130U incorporates side-firing cannons to provide surgical firepower or area saturation against hard targets such as armored vehicles.
- General Dynamics Acquires Engineering Technology Inc. General Dynamics 01 Nov 2004 -- General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today announced that is has acquired Engineering Technology Inc. (ETI), an Orlando, Fla.-based research and development company. ETI, which employs approximately 50 people, will become a part of General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems of St. Petersburg, Fla.
- Oshkosh Truck Chosen To Develop Advanced Technology Vehicles For Army’s Future Fleet Oshkosh 01 Nov 2004 -- Oshkosh Truck Corporation [NYSE: OSK], a leading manufacturer of trucks and truck bodies, has announced that in October the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) awarded the company a contract to help develop advanced technology for use in future generations of military vehicles.
- Boeing Completes SBSS Pathfinder Integrated Baseline Review Boeing 01 Nov 2004 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] announced today that in partnership with Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, the Mission Area Prime Integration Contractor, it has successfully completed the Integrated Baseline Review (IBR) for the Space Based Space Surveillance (SBSS) system. This is a significant program milestone that precedes the Preliminary Design Review (PDR).

- Middle East: Blast Shakes Tel Aviv Market RFE/RL 01 Nov 2004 -- A major blast at Tel Aviv's main marketplace today caused deaths and injuries. The blast is believed to have been caused by a Palestinian suicide car bomber. It comes just days after Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat left his West Bank headquarters for medical treatment abroad. The timing of the blast could be seen as a signal to Israel that the Palestinian uprising will continue even in the absence of Arafat.
- SOMALIA: Over 100 killed in clashes between Somaliland and Puntland IRIN 01 Nov 2004 -- Conflicting reports from the disputed region of Sool, northern Somalia, indicate that at least 100 people were killed on Friday when forces from the self-declared republic of Somaliland, and those of the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland, clashed, a local source told IRIN.
- CHINA-MARTIAL LAW VOA 01 Nov 2004 -- Chinese authorities have imposed martial law on parts of China's central Henan province after deadly clashes between China's ethnic Han majority and members of the Muslim Hui minority.
- ISRAEL BOMBING VOA 01 Nov 2004 -- A Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded Tel Aviv market on Monday killing at least three people. Thirty two people were reported wounded.
- THAI KING VIOLENCE VOA 01 Nov 2004 -- Thailand's revered monarch has called for the government to adopt a softer approach in dealing with violence in the country's Muslim-dominated south.
