Insurgent Attacks Wound Five Iraqis

Baghdad, Iraq
-- An improvised explosive device detonated in the northwest portion of the city, wounding three Iraqi civilians in the blast at about 8 p.m. on Oct. 29.

A Task Force Baghdad patrol in the area stopped to render aid to the wounded civilians and came under attack by insurgent small arms fire. Two more Iraqi civilians were wounded in the subsequent firefight.

"This is just another example of the insurgents' disregard for innocent life," said Lt. Col. James Hutton, the chief spokesman for the 1st Cavalry Division. "Task Force Baghdad Soldiers are here to bring safety and security to the streets of Baghdad, as we try to rebuild and restore the Iraqi capital to peace and prosperity. All the insurgents bring to Baghdad is violence."

The Soldiers treated the wounded civilians on the scene and evacuated them to a nearby hospital.
