BAE SYSTEMS Teams For The Airborne And Maritime/Fixed Station Radio System
21 Oct 2004
BAE Systems has been selected by Lockheed Martin to participate in the Pre-System Development and Demonstration (Pre-SDD) phase of the Airborne and Maritime/Fixed Station Joint Tactical Radio System (AMF JTRS) program.
The AMF JTRS program will provide the US armed forces with next-generation communication capabilities and situational awareness across the battle space. AMF JTRS is jointly managed by the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. Lockheed Martin was awarded a 15-month, $50 million prime contract with a potential $1 billion value over the next 15 years.
The contract is for the development of a state-of-the-art communications systems based on software-defined radio technologies that will enable net-centric defence operations. AMF JTRS systems will provide information superiority in the theatre of action through seamless, real-time voice, data and video communications between operational fortces stationed on airborne, ship and submarine platforms as well as fixed ground sites worldwide.
BAE Systems Communication, Navigation, Identification and Reconnaissance (CNIR) President Jeffrey Markel commented that, “the AMF JTRS program complements the suite of BAE Systems real-time communications capability. AMF JTRS is the next-generation of radio technology in the transformational communications market that will redefine war fighting while supporting the militarys need for mobile networking. AMF JTRS is a crucial element of Network-Centric warfare”.
BAE Systems is responsible for system and network architecture and analysis, modeling and simulation, hardware and software requirements analysis and development of Ship Integration Kit (SIK) specifications.
“BAE Systems provides domain experience, systems architecture and integration expertise, network communication systems development and hardware and software production, from Link 16 and the AN/VRC-99 to all major JTRS programs to the Lockheed Martin AMF JTRS team”, said William Campbell, vice president for BAE Systems CNIR Communications and Information Systems.
“As a key member of the Lockheed Martin team, BAE Systems understands the importance of bringing Net-Centric warfare capabilities to the warfighter in a cost effective manner, said Campbell. Our team leverages our vast experience in air, sea and land platform integration to assure the affordable and timely deployment of this system to our military”.
