Actionable Intelligence Prevents VBIED Attack

Tikrit, Iraq
-- Based on actionable intelligence received from an Iraqi informant and developed by the Forward Operating Base Speicher Force Protection Cell, Task Force 1-18 Scouts conducted a raid in Al Sequor to kill or capture a suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive device maker.

The units rapidly coordinated their efforts and moved to the scene. Once on site the house was cordoned off, the insurgent was detained, and the Scouts confiscated: 2.5 million Dinar, $3,000, a 9mm pistol, detailed strip maps of FOB Speicher, plastic explosives, and a car that was rigged to be a VBIED.

The vehicle drew a response from dogs with the FOB Speicher K-9 unit, and upon further investigation from Multi-National Forces, the vehicle tested positive for explosives.

Vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices are among the most serious of the rising threats against Multi-National Forces and have been a primary weapon used by the insurgents to kill innocent Iraqi's and civilian contractors.

The ability to locate and prevent such an attack demonstrates the adaptability of Multi-National Forces to ever changing insurgent tactics. This is the second VBIED that Task Force 1-18 has found and neutralized before detonation.
