U.S. Supports Nepalese Government Against Maoist Insurgents
State's Armitage meets Nepal's deputy prime minister October 4
Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage told Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari that the United States supports the Nepalese government in its fight against Maoist insurgents, according to a statement released by the State Department October 5.

Maoist Insurgency in Nepal
Deputy Secretary Armitage met with Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. Bharat Mohan Adhikari, on October 4 to discuss Nepal's response to the Maoist insurgency.
In his conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Deputy Secretary expressed the United States' support for the Government of Nepal in its ongoing struggle with the Maoist insurgents. The Deputy Secretary stressed the need for political unity among Nepalese parties in facing this threat and his hope that the Government and the Maoists would reach agreement on talks in the near future. He also said that the Maoists must end their brutal attacks against the Nepalese people and economy.
