Media reports of widespread casualties in eastern Baghdad disputed by US military
Baghdad, Iraq - Reports circulating in several media outlets regarding injuries as a result of a Multi-National Force air asset engagement in the Al-Thawra (Sadr City) district of Baghdad are suspect.
Early indications are that injuries to a large group of people as a result of this engagement did not occur as is being reported. As a result of the reports, however, Task Force Baghdad is initiating an internal investigation to determine the full set of facts on this matter.
There has been no precedent for significant injuries occurring as a result of engagements to people not involved in anti-Iraqi or anti-MNF combative activities in the Task Force Baghdad area.
