Thales Wins Award From U.S. Defense Information System Agency
23 September 2004
WESTON, Fla. -- Thales received a contract award from the Defense Information System Agency (DISA) to secure a significant number of unclassified circuits throughout the world for the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN).
For over 20 years, Thales has been designing and implementing secure, robust cryptographic solutions to provide network privacy and information assurance for critical infrastructures. Thales understands the Government's stringent requirements for securing complex sensitive networks and has provided a range of encryption products to meet the Government's network security needs. Thales will be securing circuits in the United States, Asia, and Europe.
The key elements for securing this award were as a result of the ease of use of Thales' Datacryptor®, the product's remote management capabilities, the flexibility of Datacryptor to address both AC and DC power requirements, along with the cost-effectiveness to meet DISA's requirements. "Driven by the growing threats to the security of sensitive information in transit, concerns over the confidentiality, integrity and reliability are critical. As Government requirements increasingly demand security without impacting performance requirements, Thales is available to meet the requirements with a credible and proven portfolio of its Datacryptor family of encryption products," said Cindy Provin, head of the e-Security activity of Thales in the Americas. This award is part of DISA's overall plan to support the warfighter and all those who support them in defense of the Nation. It meets the Secretary of Defense's critical operational goals expressed in his Quadrennial Defense Review. Since the early 1980's, Thales has delivered over 70,000 encryption products to Government and Commercial customers including White House Communications Agency, State Department, Treasury Department, Federal Reserve Bank, Federal Law Enforcement Agencies, and various elements of the Department of Defense. Thales provides FIPS 140-2, level 2 and 3 encryption products for the federal and financial markets. The Datacryptor product line supports Frame Relay, X.25, 10/100/1000 based IP, link devices up to E3/T3 and high-speed SONET networks.
About Datacryptor® products: The Datacryptor range of hardware encryptors provides strong and certified perimeter security for a wide range of network architectures including dial and leased line links, Frame Relay, X.25 and IP networks. With triple DES (168-bit) or AES (128, 192, 256-bit) algorithms built in, or using other customized, or national algorithms, it is the first family of encryption products to offer algorithm flexibility and protocol agility. This means that not only can the unit be programmed with different cryptographic algorithms as specified by the customer, but depending on the infrastructure and certain physical limitations, the same unit can be loaded to support various communications protocols. These unique features enable territory-specific algorithms to be implemented and protects the customer's investment by allowing migration to changing protocols and new algorithms.
