Indian Air Force Mirage 2000 crashes in Madhya Pradesh

New Delhi, Sept 23, IRNA -- Indian Air Force (IAF) Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft crashed near Gwalior in the Central Indian State of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday afternoon with the pilot ejecting safely. Indian Air Force spokesman, Sq Ldr Mahesh Upasnay told IRNA that the aircraft was on a practice interception mission, left the Gwalior airbase and developed problem with the undercarriage with a wheel falling off soon after the take off and crashed at 12:45 p.m. (local time). The pilot Sq Ldr Gill ejected from the fighter jet after burning out the fuel and dig the aircraft in the safe area, without any damage to life and property, he said. He said, a court of inquiry has been ordered into the crash. This is the fourth crash in the past 10 years, Upasnay said adding that the French Mirage is the frontline of the IAF and has had a very good flying record. 2160/1422
