Iraqi Intervention Forces and Task Force Baghdad continue security operations
Baghdad, Iraq - Insurgents launched 52 mortar rounds and two rockets, often landing on the dwellings of innocent civilians today as Task Force Baghdad Soldiers and Iraqi Intervention Forces continued their efforts to make the streets of eastern Baghdad neighborhoods safer Sep. 22.
In numerous actions in the Al Thawra District of Baghdad, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Iraqi and multi-national forces came under attack seven times by small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenade attacks. No casualties resulted from these attacks to Iraqi or multi-national forces.
During their patrols through eastern Baghdad, Iraqi Intervention Forces discovered and disabled an improvised explosive device. They also discovered a weapons cache consisting of eight mortar rounds and six blocks of explosives.
This is the second day of the joint security operation in the eastern portion of the city. On Tuesday, 32 mortar rounds and five more rockets were fired by insurgents, damaging solely civilian dwellings and putting the general populace at risk.
