U.S. Army Selects General Dynamics-Lockheed Martin Team for Combined WIN-T Approach

TAUNTON, Mass. – The U.S. Army today announced that it has revised its acquisition strategy for the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) program. The Army will modify the current contracts held by General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) to enable the two contractors to work together on meeting the tactical networking needs of both the current and future forces.

WIN-T is the Army’s tactical extension of the Global Information Grid. It is the Army’s key initiative that transforms the tactical network from the Current Force systems and is the key enabler of the Future Force. The Army has projected that the entire WIN-T program will be valued at approximately $7 billion through 2018.

General Dynamics will act as the prime contractor and Lockheed Martin will provide complementary technical expertise and capabilities as a major subcontractor responsible for approximately 50 percent of the effort.

“WIN-T will deliver critical technologies to current and future forces, providing a networked environment that can support the Army’s on-the-move voice, video and data communications needs. Better access to information supports better decision-making, and the WIN-T network will help deliver that information when and where the Army needs it,” said Mark Fried, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems, the unit that is responsible for the WIN-T program. “We’re very pleased to be teaming with Lockheed Martin and look forward to working with them to meet the Army’s tactical communications requirements.”

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 69,400 people worldwide and anticipates 2004 revenue of $19 billion. The company is a market leader in mission-critical information systems and technologies; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and business aviation.
