General Dynamics Awarded $29.9 Million Contract to Modify 111 M1A2 Abrams SEP Tanks

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI – The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $29.9 million ceiling price contract to repair and modify 111 M1A2 Abrams System Enhancement Package (SEP) tanks that have recently returned from the war zone. The work will be performed at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center in Lima, Ohio, and is expected to be completed by July 30, 2005. Work for this program will be allocated between TACOM (to include major component repair by Anniston Army Depot): approximately $40 Million and GDLS ($29.9 Million).

The M1A2 SEP is the latest and most advanced configuration of the Abrams main battle tank. The tanks are being repaired and modified to bring the Fourth Infantry Division to the highest level of operational readiness.

M1A2 SEP tanks have a second generation thermal imaging system and commander's independent thermal viewer, color tactical displays, digital terrain map, thermal management system, and the latest digital command, control and communications capability.
