MNF-I capture 15 insurgents during air strike operation
At around 11:25 PM September 4, Baghdad time, Multi-National Forces - Iraq conducted a successful assault on a known terrorist safehouse in the vicinity of Almad al Hamadi, Southwest of Baghdad. Multiple intelligence reports confirmed the target building was used to plan and conduct terrorist attacks involving rocket propelled grenades, improvised explosive devices, and small arms.
The mission, conducted in coordination with the Iraqi Government as part of ongoing security operations, was successfully executed and resulted in the capture of 15 Iraqi extremists and criminals. The safe house contained a large weapons cache that included multiple IEDs.
Due to a maintenance problem, a helicopter participating in the operation conducted a controlled landing in an open field. The crew was not injured and was recovered. One MNF-I soldier was slightly injured during the assault.
