The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

            2^nd Lt. James Michael Goins, 23, of Bonner Springs, Kan., died as a result of hostile fire on August 15 in Najaf, Iraq.Goins was assigned to the Army's 2^nd Battalion, 12^th Cavalry Regiment, 1^st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, Texas.

The incident is under investigation.
