Iraq Militants Reportedly Execute 12 Nepalis
31 August 2004 -- An Iraqi militant group says it has executed 12 Nepali hostages in Iraq.
According to a statement posted on an Islamist website, a group calling itself the Islamist Army of Ansar Al-Sunnah says it executed the 12 for "fighting the Muslims and serving the Jews and the Christians...and believing in Buddha as their God."
The statement, in the form of a videotape, reportedly shows the 12 being executed.
The Nepali Foreign Ministry said it could not confirm the killings. The Hindu kingdom of Nepal is not part of the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq.
