MARINES REPEL INSURGENT ATTACK NEAR FALLUJAH
FALLUJAH, Iraq - Anti-Iraqi forces repeatedly attacked a position held by Marines of the I Marine Expeditionary Force near Fallujah Saturday. The I MEF personnel manning the position took no casualties.
The AIF attacked with mortars, RPGs, machine guns and small-arms fire. The Marines returned fire with tanks. The fire was directed at enemy fighters in civilian attire observed firing several hundred meters away from the I MEF position in the vicinity of the Fallujah cloverleaf.
Additionally, Marines employed Multi-National Force-Iraq close air support with precision guided munitions on a building in an industrial, non-residential area of the city, from which the AIF were firing onto the I MEF position.
Iraqi National Guard and Police provided support to the Marine position.
Estimates of enemy casualties are unknown at this time, but at least 20-armed men were observed firing at I MEF personnel from the industrial complex.
