SUPPLEMENTAL - NON-HOSTILE HELICOPTER ACCIDENT KILLS ONE, INJURES 14

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - One coalition Soldier died and 14 were injured at approximately 2:45 this afternoon when their UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter was involved in a non-hostile accident in Khowst Province.

It was an Army helicopter with crew of four. One crewmember died and the other three were injured. Eleven Marines were being transported on the helicopter, nine of whom were injured.

The coalition routinely uses helicopters to move personnel and supplies around Afghanistan. They were not on a combat mission.

The injured service members were transported to Forward Operating Base Salerno for treatment. Four personnel sustained injuries serious enough to require further evacuation to the hospital at Bagram Air Field. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The helicopter was destroyed in the crash, but there was no fire. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

DoD will release the name of the deceased upon next of kin notification.
Further information will be released as it becomes available.
