DANANG, Vietnam -- USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) arrived here July 28 for a regularly scheduled port visit.
The visit will provide the crew with a chance for sightseeing and cultural exchanges.
This is the second U.S. Navy ship visit to Vietnam since 1973. USS Vandegrift (FFG 48) visited Ho Chi Minh City in November 2003. These visits symbolize the continuation of normalized relations between the two nations.
Curtis Wilbur is an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided missile destroyer. The 8,315-ton warship is a multi- mission platform designed to support carrier and expeditionary strike groups.
Curtis Wilbur, commanded by Cmdr. John T. Lauer, is part of the Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group, permanently forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
