Thales wins major Rafale through-life support contract from SIMMAD
23 July 2004
SIMMAD, the French defence ministry's integrated aeronautical equipment support structure, has awarded Thales a major contract for the through-life support of Thales equipment deployed on the first 120 Rafale combat aircraft.
This seven-year contract, worth 200 million euros for around 100,000 flight hours, covers the maintenance of equipment supplied by Thales (RBE2 radars, Spectra electronic warfare systems, optronics, IFF identification systems, cockpit display systems, communication systems, MDPU* mission computers, data-storage units, interface units) and associated test systems. Thales will conduct repairs, deliver replacement parts and provide technical support for delivered systems and guarantee spare parts availability for the French forces.
A central prime contracting team will manage support operations conducted at various Thales sites, including Elancourt, Brest, Châtellerault, Colombes, Guyancourt, Laval, Le Haillan and Pessac.
In May, SIMMAD awarded Thales a major through-life support contract covering all Thales equipment and systems on combat aircraft (other than the Rafale) and helicopters operated by the French forces.
This new contract confirms Thales' commitment to stronger partnership with customers and positions the company as a major contributor to the operational readiness of the Rafale, which is one of the keys to France's defence capability for the coming decades.
