Israel Aircraft Industries' Radar Simulation System Successfully Demonstrated on BAE Systems' Hawk Aircraft

Jul 21, 2004

Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI)'s Radar Simulation System (RSS) has completed successful demonstration flights on BAE Systems' Hawk aircraft. The data link based RSS is part of IAI's proven Virtual Training System and was integrated on the Hawk aircraft with IAI's Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) onboard. During the demonstration the target aircraft being tracked was equipped with an ACMI debriefing pod.

The RSS provides simulation of advanced multi-mode radar capabilities without the need to install and integrate high cost radars on the aircraft. The system utilizes a sophisticated data link network, which provides enhanced flight safety, mid-air collision avoidance alert and three dimensional, post flight debriefing.

IAI's Virtual Training System is operational on the Spanish Air Force upgraded F-5B aircraft. Following the successful demonstration of the RSS, BAE Systems and IAI are working on serial development of the RSS for Hawk export aircraft.

The flexible IAI Virtual Training System provides programmable training capabilities and can be adapted to the radar system performance on any front line fighter. The system can also provide simulation of Air-to-Air missiles and EW warning systems.
