Defence electronics systems from EADS support NH90 and Tiger helicopter missions
Farnborough, 21 July 2004
EADS Defence Electronics will equip the current NH90 and Tiger programmes with mission avionics subsystems.
As reported by EADS during Farnborough Airshow, Eurocopter has awarded EADS Defence Electronics several contracts amounting to more than 100 Mio. Euros. The contracts cover the delivery of 350 digital mapping systems “EuroGrid” as well as 400 flight data recording systems to the NH90 countries as well as for the Australian Army Reconnaissance Helicopter programme.
“The devices are essential for planning, performance and evaluation of missions and increase substantially the situation awareness of aircrews”, explained Bernhard Gerwert, CEO and President of EADS Defence Electronics.
EuroGrid is a mission system, which not only supports conventional navigation displays with geographic maps of any area of the world but also allows configurations to cover mission planning and displaying the real-time tactical data with information exchange by data link. The system also stores aircraft sensor information for post flight debriefings. The Flight Data Recorder System (FDRS) is a modular digital system, combining recordings for flight data, cockpit voice and maintenance data into one single system.
EADS Defence Electronics, supplier of radar, avionics and electronic warfare subsystems, among other aircraft equips Eurofighter, the A400M transport aircraft as well as the Tiger and NH90 helicopters. Furthermore, the Business Unit provides subsystems for land-based defence systems and naval vessels.
