BAE SYSTEMS Announces Contract Award For Titan Turret 385 From Eurocopter For German Navy
21 Jul 2004
BAE Systems Avionics Group has announced that it has been contracted by Eurocopter to supply a number of Titan 385 Multi Sensor Turret Systems to be installed on the Germany Navy Super Lynx. The contract award builds on the German Navys use of BAE Systems technology, with the German Navy already using Multi Sensor Turrets (MSTs), the predecessor system to Titan.
Following demonstration in country, Titan 385 has been identified as the form fit replacement with the systems entering service by the end of the summer. This is the first full TV Mid Wave array Thermal imaging system to enter service on the Super Lynx platform incorporating BAE Systems Sigma Camera also developed at Basildon in the UK.
Gavin Williamson, EVP EO, Battlespace, and Laser Systems, with BAE Systems Avionics Group, said: “This contract win builds on the success of the Titan 385 system in the UK which has already been purchased by the UK MoD. Titan 385 is the low risk solution for Super Lynx given the number of predecessor units already in service on a wide range of overseas platforms. The Titan 385 vertically integrates BAE Systems detector and camera into the Turret. This contract for Titan 385 is a recognition of the capabilities of UK imaging technology.”
BAE Systems Titan 385 Multi Sensor Turret System has been developed as a common standard flexible solution, for use in the airborne environments of both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. It is designed to meet the current and future operational requirements for a Multi Sensor Surveillance/Observation Aid. The Titan 385 has already been purchased by the UK MoD for its Hercules fleet.
It is based upon the proven MST platform currently in-service on a wide range of platform types including the Royal Air Force Chinook and Merlin Aircraft as well as overseas Lynx Aircraft. The Titan 385 offers a flexible building block approach from a Single Sensor Observation/Pilotage Forward Looking Infrared to a Multi Sensor Target Identification System utilising the optional payload elements
