BAE SYSTEMS Signs International Agreements For F-35 Joint Strike Fighter

19 Jul 2004

BAE Systems North America recently signed Memorandums of Agreement (MOA) for work-share partnerships with Norway, The Netherlands, Italy, and Australia for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program.

The agreements, which were signed in June, represent the first teaming agreements with international suppliers to support BAE Systems during the System Development and Design (SDD) and Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) phases of the JSF Electronic Warfare (EW) program. The MOA establishes a work-share partnership with one supplier for each country.

BAE Systems Information & Electronic Warfare Systems, headquartered in Nashua, New Hampshire, has overall responsibility for the JSF Electronic Warfare system integration.

“International partners are instrumental in achieving the program goals to develop a premier fighter aircraft,” said Deborah Lenz, BAE Systems JSF EW International program manager.

“It is the combination of unique and complimentary capabilities that we believe offers the allied warfighter the best combination of performance, price, and delivery of the product. In addition, the MOAs not only demonstrate BAE Systems willingness and commitment to use the best capabilities and services available today, but are also a major step in developing long-term relationships with our foreign suppliers,” Lenz said.

Kitron ASA, located in Billingstad, Norway, was the first supplier to sign the EW MOA. Kitron is a developer and manufacturer of electronics for the medical, defence, and data/telecommunications and process industries and has been engaged in a number of programs delivering electronic components as well as complete electronic systems for use in advanced military equipment. The MOA includes the assembly of electronic test equipment for the JSF EW program.

Thales Nederland B.V, located in Hengelo, is BAE Systems JSF EW work-share partner in The Netherlands. Thales is a European high-technology group with expertise in electronics-based defence systems and services. Thales will provide machining and casting of sub-modules and components, and the assembly of electronic components.

Galileo Avionica S.p.A., wholly owned by Finmeccanica, and based in Italy, specializes in mission electronics, avionics and electro-optics for the defence industry. Galileo Avionica will assemble cables and selected electronic components.

BAE Systems Australia Limited was chosen as the work-share partner in Australia to produce wiring boards and assemblies, cable assemblies and selected electronic components. Located in Edinburgh Parks, BAE Systems Australia Limited, is also a defence systems integrator and manufacturer of EW systems.

The Joint Strike Fighter F-35 project is sponsored by the JSF Program Office in Arlington, Virginia.
