Hamilton Sundstrand to supply electric generating system for Advanced Hawkeye

FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom- Europe, Jul 18, 2004

Hamilton Sundstrand announced today that it has been selected by Northrop Grumman Corporation to supply the electric generating system for the Advanced Hawkeye aircraft now in development.

The Hamilton Sundstrand generator will be capable of providing more power than any other aircraft generator in the commercial or military marketplace and is key to enabling the new radar and mission system being designed for the Advanced Hawkeye, the company said. The electric generating system consists of a new direct-driven generator capable of supplying up to 255 kVA of ac electrical power and a new digital generator control unit.

“The new generating system will not only provide significantly more power than the legacy E-2C generating system, but will also improve the system’s reliability and maintainability,” said Mark Spana, general manager for the Hamilton Sundstrand Electric Systems Defense business unit, based in Rockford, Illinois. “We look forward to applying our industry leading electric systems capabilities and experience in making the Advanced Hawkeye program a success.” The production program, consisting of 75 aircraft, is planned to start in 2009.

Hamilton Sundstrand also supplies the eight-bladed NP2000 propeller for this aircraft.

Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), is headquartered in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. It is among the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products.
