
General Dynamics Awarded $8.6 Million Contract for Improved Chemical Agent Monitors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), was awarded an $8.6 million option to an existing contract by the U.S. Army Robert Morris Acquisition Center, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., for the production of 2,000 Improved Chemical Agent Monitors. The contract being amended was initially awarded in December 1995 and had a value of $14.3 million; this option extends deliveries through October 2005 and will bring the total number of units produced to over 15,000, for a total value of $66 million.
Used to monitor chemical agent contamination and confirm decontamination effectiveness, the lightweight, handheld Improved Chemical Agent Monitor can detect a range of nerve and blister agents in minute quantities at atmospheric pressures. It is the primary post-attack chemical agent monitor in use worldwide, and is currently deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
