Violence continues in South Ossetia Saturday, as Russia calls for a meeting in Moscow to ease tensions over the breakaway region.
At least three members of Georgia's security forces were injured in the renewed fighting.
Meanwhile, Russia's foreign ministry called for a meeting of the Joint Control Commission, which comprises representatives from Georgia, Russia, South Ossetia and North Ossetia.
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said Saturday his country would be prepared to defend itself in the event of a conflict.
Separatists in South Ossetia are pressing to secede from Georgia and join Russia. The region declared independence in the early 1990s but the international community still considers it part of Georgia.
