A militant group in Iraq led by suspected al-Qaida linked terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has freed three Turkish hostages it was threatening to kill.
In a video broadcast by the Arabic language Al-Jazeera television, a masked man said his group decided to release the hostages for "the sake of Muslims in Turkey."
The Turkish Foreign Ministry in Ankara confirmed the release of the hostages.
On Monday Al-Jazeera reported that Iraqi militants had shot a U.S. hostage, Army Specialist Keith Maupin, because of U.S. policy in Iraq.
The station aired a video of the soldier, with murky footage of a kneeling hostage who was shot. The U.S. military has not confirmed that it was Specialist Maupin.
