Islamabad, June 29, IRNA -- US Central Command Chief General John P Abizaid arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday on a two-day official visit to Pakistan, military said. "Gen Abizaid was warmly received by Lt-Gen Tariq Majeed, chief of general staff, at Pakistan Air Force Base Chaklala, near Islamabad." No other detail of the visit was available. Meanwhile sources said General Abizaid during his meetings will discuss bilateral and regional issues pertaining to Afghanistan and Iraq as well as professional matters. General Abizaid is the frequent visitor of Pakistan. His visit acquires special significance as it comes at a time when the US government has handed over Iraq sovereignty to Iraqis. The United States wants Pakistani troops for Iraq but Pakistan has not yet made any decision. Gen Abizaid has in the past acknowledged the `enormous cooperation` extended by Pakistani military and its security services in the ongoing campaign against Al Qaeda. He replaced Gen Tommy Franks to head the Tampa-based US military Central Command that directs forces in a vast region encompassing 25 countries in the Middle East and South-West Asia.
