U.S. forces in Iraq struck what they say is a Fallujah hideout of al-Qaida linked terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi Saturday.
Local residents say the airstrike on a residential area killed at least 20 civilians, including women and children.
U.S. Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt says U.S. forces had intelligence that several members of Zarqawi's network were in the house at the time of the attack. He says the strike caused secondary blasts when ammunition stockpiles in the house exploded.
In other violence, an American was killed in a clash north of Baghdad and a Portuguese security guard and an Iraqi policeman were killed by a roadside bomb. And officials in Beirut say Iraqi kidnappers released a Lebanese hostage.
