CTA International Secures New Contract From UK MOD
16 Jun 2004
CTA International (CTAI), the BAE Systems and Giat Industries joint venture, has been awarded a contract from the UK MOD for a Manned Turret Integration Programme (MTIP).
CTAI will complete the 6million contract in 2006 and will manage the programme in parallel with a similar French project.
The MTIP programme will advance the integration of CTAIs 40mm Cased Telescoped Weapon system (CTWS) to SRL 6 (System integration Readiness Level). This will culminate in live crew clearance and a user evaluation of a two-man turret upon a Warrior infantry fighting vehicle chassis.
The contract builds upon the output of the joint Anglo/French Objective Future Cannon Programme (OFCP) which will demonstrate a TRL 7 (Technology Readiness Level) maturity of the weapon and ammunition subsystems later this year.
MTIP will operate under a UK/France technical arrangement. This arrangement facilitates the transfer of risk reduction data between MTIP and the French Unmanned Turret Demonstrator programme (Toutatis).
The Toutatis contract was placed on CTAI by the French Government in November 2003. The two programmes will run concurrently and collectively will deliver manned and unmanned turret risk reduction data to support future light and medium armoured fighting vehicle development programmes. These include Warrior Lethality Improvement, Future Rapid Effects System (FRES), Engin Blind Roues de Contact (EBRC) and Vehicule Blind de Combat dInfanterie (VBCI).

About CTAI
CTAI (Case Telescoped Ammunition International) is a joint venture between BAE Systems Customer Solutions & Supports RO Defence business and Giat. Based in Bourges, France, the company was created to design, develop, promote and market a new Case Telescoped Weapon System (CTWS).
CTWS ammunition is wholly contained within the cartridge, which confers the advantages of high-density storage and, via the use of lightweight materials, a high mass efficiency. The shape of the ammunition also enables novel gun design approaches, which provide space and mass efficiencies. The gun system has been designed to vastly increase reliability by eliminating over 50% of a conventional guns most unreliable parts.
